What the nightlife is like

Salamanca is Madrid’s smartest clubbing district: upscale venues, VIP tables and a door that is strict about dress code. Of its 6 clubs, 3 have a smart dress code.

The clubs are spread along streets like Velázquez, Goya and Juan Bravo, close to each other; Velázquez, Goya and Núñez de Balboa metro stations are nearby.

What to wear

It pays to dress a notch smarter than elsewhere: long trousers, a shirt or polo and shoes (or smart trainers) for men; a dress, skirt or smart trousers for women. Sportswear, caps and flip-flops rarely get in.

A night out in the district

The usual plan is dinner or drinks around Jorge Juan, Ortega y Gasset or Calle Goya, then the club from 1:00. Several clubs are a few minutes apart on foot, so if one door is tricky it is easy to try another.

Demand is high at weekends and the cheapest tickets go fast. If you want a specific night, buy a few days ahead and bring your original ID: doors here are strict about age and dress code.
